RIDING INSTRUCTOR

Manito Equestrian Center – Allentown, PA 18104

 

Manito is located on a 60-acre preserved horse farm in South Whitehall township and is the home to Manito Equestrian Center as well as Manito Life Center.  Manito Equestrian Center offers a variety of services, including riding lessons for all skill levels, summer camp, boarding, and much more.  Manito Life Center, a 501(c)(3), is dedicated to helping children and adults who are experiencing trauma, individuals with special needs, and individuals with a variety of physical and cognitive disabilities.  Services include equine-assisted psychotherapy, equine-assisted learning, and therapeutic riding.  As we continue to grow and expand services we are looking to add new members to our team.

 

General Summary:

​

This riding instructor position will report directly to the head riding instructor and program director for Manito Equestrian and Life Center. 

 

  • Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • Development, execution, and tracking of lesson plans for both typical and therapeutic clients while adhering to the standards of safety, education, and horsemanship set by PATH International and Manito Equestrian and Life Centers.

  • Professional, courteous, and compassionate interaction with those students and families as well as the volunteer team and staff

  • Aid in the development of herd under the direction of the program director

  • Participate in special events including, but not limited to, horse shows, media events, fundraisers, tours, and demonstrations

  • Represent Manito Equestrian and Life Center at public events/shows

  • Assist in day to day barn management and maintenance duties as needed

  • Participate in education for both self and the development of our volunteer teams

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Experience teaching typical lessons with an emphasis on equitation, balance, and performance

  • Experience in coaching and prepping students for show

  • Experience in lunging, long-lining, round-penning, and ground exercises

  • Experience is preferred to be multi-disciplinary as we teach balance seat, basic dressage, western, and saddle seat

  • Candidate must have an extensive knowledge of breed standards within multiple disciplines for many breeds, including, but not limited to: Morgans, Saddlebreds, Warm Bloods, Quarter Horses, and gaited breeds

  • Candidate must be punctual, reliable, have a high standard of ethics, excellent communication skills, the ability to take and apply feedback, to communicate and lead a volunteer team

  • Candidate must have weekend and evening availability, including holidays

  • Candidate must be able to protect the privacy of our participants in accordance with HIPPA

  • Must be able to sustain the physical rigors of this position, including lifting and carrying of 50lbs as well as work in all environmental conditions

  • Candidate must be willing to foster the unique culture of Manito Equestrian and Life Centers

  • Candidate must be willing, as part of the interview process, to demonstrate a variety of ground work techniques, ride a minimum of 2 disciplines, and teach both a typical and therapeutic riding lesson
